Title: Significance of the wrist joint arthrodesis in treatment of the painful wrist arthritis. For the treatment of the panarthritis of the wrist joint there exist several methods, including denervation, wrist joint replacement and arthrodesis. Against the background of the increasing significance of the wrist joint replacement the results of the arthrodesis should be considered. 32 Patients with painful arthritis of the wrist were treated by an arthrodesis of the wrist. The follow up was performed after an average of 4,3 years. There was a rate of bony consolidation of 100 %. No complications were reported regarding extensor tendon function. Preoperative pain was evaluated by a numerical rank scala (NRS) with at median 9, in the follow up at median 3. Grip strength compared to the contralateral side was 34 % preoperatively and 71 % at the follow up. The DASH score was at median 58 preoperatively and 43 at the follow up. We consider the wrist joint arthrodesis as a standard treatment of the wrist joint panarthritis.
