"Giorgionismus" in Raffael Sanzios "La scuola di Atene", 1508 - 10, Fresko in der Stanza della Segnatura des Vatikan

Abstract

Zusammenfassung: Ich vertrete die These, dass Raffael mit seiner "Schule von Athen" von 1508 - 10 ganz in der Tradition des "Giorgionismus" steht. Giorgiones "Die drei Philosophen" von 1508/09 stellen gewissermaßen ein Urbild der "Schule von Athen" dar. Den Schlüssel zum Verständnis der beiden Gruppen auf der rechten Seite des Freskos liefert die Erkennung des Aristarchus von Samos. Er und die Pythagoräer waren die Wegbereiter eines Kopernikus, der in der "Schule" mit Raffael auf der Schwelle zur Neuzeit steht. Neben ihnen wird der Pythagoräer Philolaus von Kroton und der Stoiker Kleanthes zum ersten Mal vollgültig erkannt.

Abstract: I advocate the thesis that Raffael with his "School of Athens" (1508 - 10) stands in the tradition of "Giorgionism" entirely. Giorgione’s painting "The three philosophers" of 1508/09 is so to speak one prototype of the "School of Athens". Recognizing Aristarchos of Samos in the fresco gives us the key to understanding the both groups on the right side. He and the Pythagoreans paved the way for Copernicus, who stands in the "School" with Raffael on the threshold to the Modern Age. Furthermore, Philolaus of Croton and the stoic Cleanthes are recognized clearly for the first time.
