AbstractThis study examines a possible association between the dinucleotide polymorphism A0 in the tau gene and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). For that purpose, we performed an analysis of the polymorphism by sequence-length analysis comparing 202 patients and 198 controls. While the A0 polymorphism was significantly overrepresented in the ALS group, there was no significant association between the A0/A0 genotype and the development of the disease. A detailed analysis revealed an increased frequence of the H1/H1 haplotype of the Tau Gene in the ALS group. The studied genotype and particularly the haplotype could be a part of the multifactorial pathogenetics of ALS. In addition, this study supports the theory that neurofilaments are taking part in the pathogentics of ALS.dc.description.abstract
