AbstractThe adsorption and electrooxidation of the C2 and C3 alcohols ethylene glycol, 1-propanol and glycerol were studied on Pt film electrodes. To further elucidate the underlying reaction network, the adsorption/oxidation of their partly oxidized intermediates glycolaldehyde, glyceraldehyde, glyceric acid, propionaldehyde and propionic acid was investigated as well. Detailed kinetic and mechanistic information was gained by the use of a combination of in situ ATR-FTIRS and online DEMS, which allowed following the adlayer formation and the formation of volatile or gaseous (side-) products simultaneously. Additional insight into the reaction networks was gained by the use of isotope (D and 13C) labeling.dc.description.abstract
