AbstractThe seed rain composition in different-sized Brazilian Atlantic forest fragments was studied during a one year period. Furthermore, the importance of the two pioneer species Cecropia palmata and Cecropia pachystachya (Cecropiaceae) in the seed rain of those forest fragments with varying disturbance, forest, and landscape metrics was investigated. Feeding and germination experiments with captured Cebus monkeys tried to elucidate their role as primary dispersal agents of local fruits. Finally, removal experiments with exotic fruit items were performed to study secondary dispersal processes with regard to forest edge and size effects.dc.description.abstract
