AbstractA novel synthetic approach to mesoporous nanoparticles of various inorganic oxides as silica, titania, and Zr-doped titania has been developed by combining the miniemulsion technique with the sol-gel process. The effect of synthesis conditions on the morphology, stability, mesoscopic ordering, phase composition and specific surface area of the resulting materials was investigated. Beneath the synthesis, the application of these materials was important as well. The photocatalytic activity of pure and Zr-doped titania was examined by the photodegradation of methylene blue under UV irradiation. For the additional application as catalyst support for gold nanoparticles in the oxidation of carbon monoxide in fuel cells, gold nanoparticles were in-situ precipitated during the synthesis of titania.dc.description.abstract
