AbstractThe starting point of the present work was a problem in the praxis of software platform development: the evaluation of the test status during the test process and the derived evaluation of the quality of the platform in order to decide about its release. This problem can be divided into three areas described below. The aim of the work is to define a process to create a test metric system to facilitate the release decision and the evaluation of the quality during the test process. The first problem area is the quality of platforms as there is a need to focus on quality more than regarding common applications. This is caused by the fact that qualitative deficiencies of the platform are inherited to the applications. The second problem area are the tests of platforms as they differ from tests of applications. The third problem area is given by test metric models for platforms. By now there have not been any especially adapted models. At first the process that should be followed to create and implement test metrics is set up by the parts: identification of the quality attributes that are relevant for software platforms, development and adaption of software metrics and selection of metrics that should be implemented. Therefore a prioritization of quality attributes from ISO 9126 / 25000 is made based on a study by Johansson. On this basis key figures can be listed, created or adapted. They result in the necessity to define the context of the test execution in order to create the data basis. The last part is the selection of key figures to be implemented. This is done incorporating project and situation specific criteria including the feasibility. The model was implemented in a software platform development project at Daimler AG. There a key figure system was created that included illustrations of the key figures. Some of the project results are contained in the work as well.dc.description.abstract
