AbstractBy investigating the initial stages and gaining mechanistic insights into the fundamental differences between Cr (VI) and Cr (III) model systems, a novel chromium (III) complex was developed as the basic building block of a trivalent chromium plating solution. The performance of the new electrolyte was tested on glassy carbon and metal substrates, and the influence of different factors on the deposited chromium films was also investigated. In addition, the fabrication of well-defined iridium nanospheres on glassy carbon substrates using a square wave potential technique was investigated, and the influence of different process parameters on particle density, size, and electrocatalytic activity towards carbon monoxide adlayer oxidation was also tested.dc.description.abstract
