AbstractMesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are known to act as immunosuppressive cells, partially due to the expression of the enzyme indoleamine dioxygenase (IDO), which converts tryptophan to kynurenine. Accumulation of MSCs within tumor tissue is associated with tumor progression and poor prognosis. Necrotic cell death with subsequent release of damage associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) is a characteristic feature of advanced solid tumors. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP), high mobility box 1 (HMGB1), S100A4 and uric acid belong to known DAMPs family members. It was already shown that DAMPs act as chemoattractants on MSCs, also influencing their proliferation. The present work aims at determining if DAMPs have any impact on immunosuppressive capacities of MSCs, with specific regard to IDO-activity and subsequent production of kynurenine.dc.description.abstract
