Dendrimers are three-dimensional repeatedly branched molecules and represent a relatively young class of macromolecules. Next to flexible dendrimers it is also possible to synthesize semirigid conjugated dendrimers by connecting exclusively pi-conjugated subunits. These molecules are characterized by their structure perfection by means of their high symmetry and monodispersity due to a precise synthetic approach.
The main objective of this thesis was to develop and adjust the molecular properties of the non-functionalized dendritic oligothiophenes (DOTs) by introducing functional groups with respect to the requirements advantageous for the different envisaged applications. In the course of the investigations we wanted to gather structure-property relationships between different generations of the functionalized DOTs.
By implementation of multiple functional moieties into the DOTs and their reasonable combination with each other and with other functional building blocks, we intended to create various tailored materials for organic electronic applications, especially for organic solar cells.
