The dissertation deals with the synthesis and catalysis of new catalyst systems for enantioselective CO insertion into epoxides to built up lactones. The catalyst system concerns a "dual site catalysis" which includes a Lewis acid (LA) based on Al-, B-, and Cr-complexes and a carbonylation reagent, where anionic Fe-, W-, Mo-, and Co- compounds where synthesised and investigated. The idea was to built up a enantiomerically enriched lactone from racemic epoxide and carbon monoxide. This lactone could further be polymerised by ring opening polymerisation to end in a biodegradable aliphatic polyester that could substitute part of the "mass plastics" polyethylene or polypropylene because it has similar material properties.
In this work, several LAs and carbonylation complexes where synthesised and applied in catalysis. Diverse combinations of the compounds where sampled. Different reaction conditions and parameters where investigated. Reaction mechanisms and progressions where investigated by NMR, IR and UV/Vis spectroscopy.
